London man accused of stealing from Special Olympics donation bin at grocery store

The Laurel County Sheriff's Department arrested a London man early Thursday morning for allegedly stealing items from a Special Olympics donation bin.

Sheriff John Root says the crime happened about 1:15 a.m. Thursday at Ott's Grocery just off Hawk Creek Road, about five miles west of London.

According to the sheriff, Gary Patton, 49, of Roy Dugger Road in London, was seen taking items that had been placed in a Special Olympics donation bin at the store.

Patton was charged with theft by unlawful taking and driving under the influence, the sheriff's office said.

He was being held in the Laurel County jail.
