Cal gearing up for closing kick on class of '15

broberts@herald-leader.comJune 29, 2014

With a loaded roster already on campus for the upcoming basketball season, UK Coach John Calipari's primary focus is on winning a second national title.

He'll also spend the next few months chasing another top-ranked recruiting class.

Chicago guard Charles Matthews has already committed to the Wildcats for 2015, and several other top prospects are expected to join him before the end of this recruiting cycle, which should be heating up soon.

Once the summer basketball circuit wraps up in late July, the recruiting visits will follow. Visits lead to the narrowing of college choices, and that leads to commitments.

UK's class of 2014 was completed by the first signing period in November. The 2015 class probably won't be locked up that soon, but it's already clear who Calipari's top targets will be.

Eight uncommitted players from the class of 2015 have scholarship offers from Kentucky, and the UK coaching staff is keeping an eye on several others.

Calipari has also offered seven prospects who will be high school juniors this fall.
