Four ex-Cats on rosters for Orlando Summer League, which starts Saturday

The rosters for the NBA’s 10-team Orlando Summer League have been finalized and four former University of Kentucky players are expected to participate in the six-day event, which starts Saturday. Each team will play five games.

All of Saturday’s games will be televised on NBA TV and online at Note that start times will be subject to change if earlier games last longer than the allotted two hours.

First up will be Marquis Teague, who’ll be playing for the Brooklyn Nets against the Indiana Pacers at 9 a.m. ET.

Game 2 has the Miami Heat playing the Boston Celtics at 11 a.m. Boston drafted James Young with the 17th overall pick in the NBA Draft, though his status for the event is in question.

Coach Brad Stevens said Thursday that Young, who hasn’t yet fully practiced with the team, might be held out as he continues to recover from a neck injury he suffered during a minor, pre-draft car accident.

The Philadelphia 76ers’ Nerlens Noel will make his long-awaited debut against the Orlando Magic in the third game of the day, which is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.

Noel missed all of last season while recovering from an ACL injury.

DeAndre Liggins, a free agent suiting up for the Detroit Pistons, will play in the fourth game against the Houston Rockets at 3 p.m.

Saturday’s final game — Grizzlies vs. Thunder at 5 p.m. — is the only one without an ex-Cat.

Wednesday’s schedule is set up to possibly have former Cats playing against each other in two games. Noel’s Sixers play Teague’s Nets and Young’s Celtics will face Liggins’ Pistons.

The final day of the event on July 11 will be a championship day with pairings to be determined.

The games in Orlando will also feature several other Kentuckians. Those include Louisville’s Peyton Siva (Pistons) and Luke Hancock (Magic) and Murray State’s Isaiah Canaan (Rockets), Ed Daniel (76ers) and Ivan Aska (Heat).

The NBA’s other summer league, which starts in Las Vegas on July 11, is expected to include Noel, Daniel Orton (Wizards), Julius Randle (Lakers) and Archie Goodwin (Suns).
