A Morehead man died in a tractor accident in rural Rowan County on Friday afternoon.

Lonnie Curtis Davis, 47, was using the tractor to remove a tree from the woods to cut for firewood. The tractor reared back and flipped, pinning Davis, Rowan County Coroner John P. Northcutt said.

The tractor was not equipped with a roll bar.

The accident occurred on Davis' uncle's farm on Bull Fork Road, Northcutt said.

He said a family member became concerned when Davis couldn't be reached on his cell phone, which prompted Davis' uncle to look for and find him at about 2:20 p.m.

Northcutt said it is believed that Davis was trapped under the tractor for at least 2½ hours before he was found. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:36 p.m.

Davis was a truck driver who served in the Navy on the USS Saratoga. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead, with funeral services at 1 p.m.
