Tennis tourney needs volunteers to help house players, officials

The Kentucky Bank Tennis Championships, held July 21-27 at the University of Kentucky's Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center, is seeking volunteers to house players and officials, and to help with the tournament and transportation. Ball kids, ages 8 and up, are also needed throughout the tournament (training and monitoring are provided).

The Kentucky Bank Tennis Championships, the only USTA Pro-Circuit event in the state, draws more than 100 players from around the world and offers $50,000 in prize money in both the men's and women's draws.

Transportation is provided by tournament volunteers, so host families have to provide only accommodations.

Each night throughout the week, the Kentucky Bank Tennis Championships holds different community events, including an amateur women's round robin tennis tournament on July 24 and one for men on July 25. A Big Blue Exhibition will be played July 23 as part of the University of Kentucky Tennis Hall of Fame induction.

Qualifying will be held July 19-20 and is free to the public. Admission throughout the following week is $10.

For information, please contact tournament director Brooks Lundy at (859) 509-9707 or lblundy1@gmail.com. If you are interested in housing a player, contact Susannah Harris at (859) 312-6189 or susannahharris@aol.com.
