Police say they believe a man found dead early Tuesday just off a highway in northern Pulaski County was hit by a passing vehicle as he walked on the road.

The man was identified as Ricky Alan Meredith, 45, who lived near where his body was found beside Ky. 452.

A road-paving crew saw Meredith's body near a stream near the road at 7:21 a.m., according to a release from the sheriff's office.

Meredith's girlfriend said he left their house on foot about midnight Sunday.

She had not seen him since, but had not reported him missing before the road crew found him, according to a release.

Police said they think Meredith was walking west toward U.S. 27 when a vehicle traveling east hit him and left the scene.

Police did not have a description of the vehicle.

Anyone who saw Meredith walking late Sunday or early Monday, or who might have information about the crash, may call (606) 678-4655 or go to the sheriff's office tip page at www.pulaskisheriff.com. Callers can remain anonymous.
