Lexington police have charged a second man in a robbery and beating at an apartment near the University of Kentucky.
Investigators said Tuesday that they had charged Eric L. Richardson Jr., 24, in the robbery and assault, according to a news release. He is charged with one count of first-degree robbery.
Richardson's charges follow the arrest of Derrick L. Quarles, 21, who was charged June 27 with two counts of first-degree robbery.
Police said the two men forced their way into an apartment on State Street, assaulted two people and made off with a computer and other items that were in large black trash bags.
One of the victims was hit on the head with a hammer, police said. It's not clear whether the second person was assaulted. The trash bags and some items were later discovered near a silver Dodge Charger on Conn Terrace.
Quarles was a former walk-on for the UK football team, but he never played in a game. He was listed most recently on the first 2013 spring roster, but he wasn't listed after that.
