Powell County clerk charged with DUI, jailed after crash near courthouse

STANTON — Powell County Clerk Rhonda Barnett was charged Tuesday with driving under the influence after a vehicle she drove struck a parked vehicle, Kentucky State Police said.

The crash, reported shortly before 11 a.m., happened near the Powell County Courthouse in Stanton, said Master Trooper Joe Veeneman, spokesmen for the state police post in Morehead.

Stanton police took the initial call but turned the case over to state police, who took Barnett, 57, to a hospital in Mount Sterling so blood could be drawn for a blood-alcohol test, Veeneman said.

State police then took Barnett back to Stanton, where she was being held in the jail.
