Beam Suntory names consumer veteran to head North America

Beam Suntory announced Tuesday that consumer-goods veteran Tim Hassett, 50, will join the company as president of its North American business, effective July 31.

Hassett joins Beam Suntory from Campbell Soup Co. Before Campbell, Hassett was with Kellogg's and Procter & Gamble.

Hassett will report to Matt Shattock, chairman and CEO of Chicago-based Beam Suntory. He succeeds Bill Newlands, who previously indicated his intent to leave the company later this summer after Japan-based Suntory bought Beam for $16 billion.

Beam Suntory is the parent company of the Kentucky bourbons Jim Beam Red Stag, Knob Creek, Basil Hayden's, Booker's, Baker's and Maker's Mark. Other brands include Teacher's, Laphroaig, Bowmore, Canadian Club, Courvoisier, Sauza, Pinnacle and Midori, and Japanese whiskeys Yamazaki, Hakushu, Hibiki and Kakubin.

"Tim is an exceptional consumer-oriented executive with a broad and unique background spanning sales, marketing, innovation and manufacturing," Shattock said in a news release.
