Santa's Land owner requests campsite at park

The Associated PressJuly 17, 2014

— The owner of a holiday-themed park in southern Vermont is looking to add a campsite to the property as she deals with an animal cruelty charge and bankruptcy proceedings.

The Putney Development Review Board for now has declined an eight-tent campsite at Santa's Land, telling owner Lillian Billewicz to return with more documentation at a later meeting.

Billewicz and property caretaker Brian Deistler, have pleaded not guilty to animal-cruelty charges related to the alleged malnutrition and mistreatment of animals at the park. Billewicz also has requested Chapter 13 bankruptcy protection.

The Brattleboro Reformer reports (http://bit.ly/1bI41RH) Billewicz's legal and financial troubles have not stopped her from pursuing permits for improvements and additions at the park. In March, she received a board permit for operating the Igloo Restaurant at Santa's Land.
