Hilton Hotels and Resorts is building a 103-suite Home2 Suites Hotel at 2368 Professional Heights Drive off Nicholasville Road.
The hotel is scheduled to open in March, according to Jennifer Hughes, a spokesman for Hilton's extended-stay properties.
Home2 suites is described as "a hip extended-stay hotel experience" on its website, where it promises "to always provide our guests with earth-conscious products and services they can feel good about." It also emphasizes its commitment to on-site recycling, eco-friendly construction materials and Energy Star-rated appliances.
The chain, launched in 2010, has properties in cities including Baltimore; Nashville; Charlotte, N.C.; Salt Lake City; and Dallas and San Antonio, Texas.
Neighbors of the hotel, which is behind the Trader Joe's on Nicholasville Road, opposed its construction in 2012, protesting the zoning changes that were required to build the hotel. The Lexington Fayette County Urban County Board of Adjustment disagreed, saying that an extended-stay hotel "is an appropriation transition between existing commercial development to the south and west, and residential uses to the north and east."
In October, 2012, the developer, Cohen Realty LLC, agreed to compromises, including installing an 8-foot privacy fence and sparing two large bur oak trees on the property.
