A Lexington man pleaded not guilty Wednesday afternoon to sexual abuse charges stemming from alleged incidents in 2009 and 2010.

David Edward Claybrooks, 72, pleaded not guilty in Fayette District Court to charges of first-degree sexual abuse and second-degree rape and sodomy.

According to court documents, Claybrooks admitted to police that he had sexual contact with a girl when she was younger than 12 and had sexual intercourse with her when she was younger than 14. He was arrested and charged Tuesday evening.

Claybrooks was being held in the Fayette County Detention Center on a $3,000 full cash bond. He was ordered to stay away from the victim and is considered a threat to the community, the documents said. Claybrooks is scheduled to be back in court July 25 for a preliminary hearing.
