A 34-year-old man died and several people were injured in a crash Friday that closed part of Interstate 64 near the Fayette County-Scott County line.

Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn said his office received a call from police at 2:20 p.m. after a vehicle crossed the median from the westbound lanes and collided with a vehicle in the eastbound lanes of the interstate. Ginn did not release the name of the man who was killed pending notification of his relatives. The death was ruled accidental. Four people were taken to a local hospital with injuries.

The cause of the wreck, which involved a gray Ford sedan and a Nissan SUV, was not immediately known, police Lt. Jesse Harris said. He said police think the sedan crossed the median. There was a light drizzle at the time of the crash, but it was too early to determine whether weather played a part in the wreck, Harris said.
