Golden alert canceled after Lexington woman, 75, is found safe at nursing home

Herald-Leader Staff ReportJuly 20, 2014

A 75-year-old woman who was reported missing Sunday was found safe hours later by Lexington police at a nursing home on Versailles Road.

At 12:45 p.m., the divisions of police and fire were called to the area of Montavesta and Dove Run roads after a friend of the woman reported her missing. The friend was unaware that the woman had moved to the nursing home Friday, police Lt. Jesse Harris said.

Police were able to get a rough location for the woman from her cellphone company and then were able to contact her on the phone.

"But she couldn't explain where she was. She was on the phone for a good long time, but she just kept saying, 'I'm inside a room. I don't know where I'm at,'" Harris said.

The golden alert was canceled after police found the woman shortly after 4 p.m. at Homestead Nursing Center.
