A crowd gathered at Lexington's Douglass Park on Friday night to remember 2-year-old Cristiano Wade, who died Wednesday after falling from bleachers at the park, 726 Georgetown Street.

The Fayette County Coroner's office has not determined the cause of death, pending autopsy results.

Police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said the department's Crimes Against Children Unit was investigating. She said it would not be known whether charges would be filed until after the coroner determines the cause of death.

Cristiano's relatives and friends filled the bleachers at the park.

After a prayer and a song, they lit candles and released blue and white balloons in Cristiano's memory (he was described as a UK basketball fan). A roar of applause filled the park as the balloons went up.

Dana Berry, Cristiano's cousin, said he had a smile of gold and enjoyed playing with Berry's twin daughters.

The crowd was urged to sign a petition in an effort to have the bleachers replaced with some that are safer.
