Fayette County: 18 back-to-school rallies planned for Saturday

The eighth annual Lexington Neighborhood Back-to-School Rallies will be Saturday. These rallies will provide local elementary, middle and high school students with free backpacks and school supplies.

The rallies are an initiative of the YMCA, which coordinates the event. Since 2011, the rallies have served more than 27,000 children.

Registration for the supplies will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the sites. Supplies will be distributed at noon. Children must be with a parent or guardian to receive supplies.

The sites for this year's rallies are:

■ Carver Neighborhood Center, 522 Patterson Street.

■ Baptist Church, 237 East Fifth Street.

■ Douglass Park, 726 Georgetown Street.

■ First Baptist Church Bracktown, 3016 Bracktown Road.

■ Gainesway Center, 3460 Milano Drive.

■ Gardenside Christian Church, 940 Holly Springs Drive.

■ Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 2185 Garden Springs Drive.

■ Green Acres Shelter, 1560 LaSalle Road.

■ Imani Family Life Center, 1555 Georgetown Street.

■ Marlboro Park, 561 Benton Road.

■ Pralltown/Lou Johnson Park, 190 Lou Johnson Way.

■ Russell Cave Church of Christ, 1841 McCullough Drive.

■ Coolivan Park, 550 East Sixth Street.

■ Spiegel Heights Park, 424 Spiegel Street.

■ Temple of Prayer, 549 Parkside Drive.

■ Total Grace, 1313 North Limestone.

■ Valley Park, 2077 Cambridge Drive.

■ Woodhill Park, 457 Larkwood Drive.
