Former Lexington Catholic High School golfer Matthew Mahle shot a 1-under par 71 on Wednesday to overtake leader Nick Blakely in his hometown and win the Chattanooga (Tenn.) Choo Choo Invitational Tournament.

Mahle, a 19-year-old sophomore-to-be at the College of Charleston in South Carolina, fired a 71 Wednesday to complete his three rounds with a 6-under par 210 total in the all-amateur tournament.

Blakely, a Chattanooga native who played at Birmingham-Southern, entered Wednesday's final round with a two-shot lead over Mahle but fired a 2-over 74.

Mahle shot a 65 in the first round Monday before a 74 on Tuesday but was steady all day Wednesday, making par on 11 of the 18 holes, along with three birdies, an eagle, two bogeys and a double bogey.

Mahle was one of four Kentuckians in the field, joining Taylor Riggs of LaGrange (+1 for the tournament), Todd McDaniel of Manchester (+14) and Stephen Stallings of Louisville (+15).
