A 22-month-old girl died Monday after she was run over by a car in Barbourville.

Kentucky State Police in Harlan said they received a call at 2:44 p.m. that a child had been struck by a vehicle on Maggie Cane Road in Knox County.

Scott Rose, 44, of Barbourville was driving a 2013 Ford Mustang when he stopped to wait for two small children to get out of the road but didn't see the third child beside his vehicle, according to police. The girl fell underneath the vehicle and was struck by the back wheel. She was taken to Knox County Hospital then flown to University of Kentucky Medical Center, where she died. The news release did not identify the child.

Drugs and alcohol were not suspected to be factors in accident, state police said.
