Chatham's Southern Comfort Food restaurant has opened at the corner of High and Woodland — the longtime location of Ramsey's.

Chatham's revels in its down-home menu which includes items such as fried green tomatoes, skillet cornbread and catfish "po boy" sandwiches, said owner Charles Patterson.

Prices on the menu are set in a whimsical way, Patterson said.

For example, praline pancakes are $6.21, "JoJo's Mealoaf," named for Patterson's mother, is $9.82, and shrimp and grits is $13.77.

"That's part of the fun," Patterson said of the varying amount of change affixed to the dollar price. "I wanted to make it completely different."

A watermelon and quinoa salad, which according to the menu must be ordered seven days in advance, is $135. That's a joke, said Patterson, because the restaurant serves Southern comfort food, not the grain that's currently trendy among those espousing healthy eating.

"Since we're serving hamburgers and hot browns and southern comfort food, there's no quinoa," he said.

The restaurant is awaiting its liquor license before holding its grand opening, Patterson said.

The remodeled restaurant holds 100 patrons inside, and another 40 on its patio.

The Ramsey's restaurant moved to 151 W. Zandale.
