A woman died early Monday after a collision with a semi in Cumberland County.

Alcohol is believed to have contributed to the crash, state police said.

April M. Thompson, 30, of Burkesville, was driving a Chevrolet van east on Ky. 90 when she crossed the center line and collided with a Freightliner seven miles west of Burkesville, according to a news release from state police.

Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, which happened at about 3 a.m.

The driver of the truck, Robert Nissley, 50, of Monticello, tried to avoid the crash and went off the road and into a ditch after the impact.

A 13-year-old passenger, Jared Nissley, was in the sleeper berth and was not restrained. He suffered a broken leg and was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.

Robert Nissley and Caleb Nissley, 15, were both wearing seatbelts. They were treated and then released from the Cumberland County Hospital.
