Jessamine County notes: Explore Day at library Sunday

Jessamine Library to host Explore Day

The Jessamine County Public Library will host an Explore Day from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at 600 South Main Street in Nicholasville. Features and activities for the free event include: battle of the bands, a climbing wall, food vendors, prizes, giveaways, temporary tattoos, ballet dancing, antique tractors and emergency response vehicles. The Nich-Tran bus will be on hand with info about the new Nicholasville route. More info at Bowl at West Jessamine this weekend

Nicholasville will play host to visiting football and soccer teams from across the region Friday through Sunday at the fourth annual Bowl held at West Jessamine High School. In the football competition on Friday, the East Jessamine High Jaguars take on Scott High (Covington) at 6:30 p.m., followed by a game pitting the West Jessamine Colts against South Oldham. In the Soccerama on Saturday and Sunday, East and West Jessamine boys teams will face Newport Central Catholic and Johnson Central. Girl's teams from East and West Jessamine will play host to Bishop Brossart (Alexandria) and Russell High. Go to for more info.

McConnell to speak at Chamber of Commerce luncheon

The Jessamine County Chamber of Commerce will host guest speaker Sen. Mitch McConnell at a noon luncheon Wednesday at the R.J. Corman Hanger, 101 R.J. Corman Drive, Nicholasville. Tickets are $15 and reservations can be made by calling (859) 887-4351.
