Scott County notes: Historian to share relatives' Civil War experience Sunday

August 18, 2014

Folk singer and historian Judy Cook will share the story of her great-great-grandparents' sacrifice in A Quiet Corner of the War on Sunday at the Scott County Public Library.

Experience a couple's shared sacrifice in A Quiet Corner of the War at 2 p.m. Sunday at Scott County Public Library, 104 South Bradford Lane, Georgetown.

A bundle of letters drew folk singer and historian Judy Cook into her great-great-grandparents' lives on their Wisconsin farm and into the heart of the Civil War near Columbus, Ky., in 1862.

Her great-great-grandfather Gilbert Claflin, who fought in the war, exchanged letters with his wife, describing the daily routine of sons, fathers and brothers charged with the job of saving the Union.
