A man remained in critical condition Monday evening at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital after being struck by a car Sunday night, Lexington police said.

It happened just after 9 p.m. Sunday on South Broadway near Red Mile Road, police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said.

She said the pedestrian, who was not in a crosswalk, stepped into traffic and was struck by a passing car.

The man suffered a serious head injury, Roberts said.

She said the driver stopped and called 911.

An investigation was continuing, but Roberts said it didn't appear that the motorist would be charged.
