Someone apparently fired shots into a Lexington apartment early Tuesday morning using a high-powered rifle, police said.

It happened about 4 a.m. at an apartment in the 1300 block of Royalty Court, just off Waller Avenue, police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said.

A man and woman were sitting on a couch in the apartment when several bullets came through the wall, Roberts said. No one was hit.

A dark sport-utility vehicle was seen speeding away from the area afterward, Roberts said.

Investigating officers recovered a number of shell casings and are "fairly certain" the shots came from a high-powered rifle, she said.

An investigation is continuing.
