Daniel H. Erbe


Daniel H. Erbe, a special bandsman with the Army Field Band at Fort George G. Meade, Md., has been decorated with the Army Achievement Medal.

The medal is awarded to members of the U.S. Armed Forces, who, while serving in any capacity with the Army, have distinguished themselves by meritorious service or achievement.

He is a 1994 graduate of Lafayette High School.


■ Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Joshua I. Thomas has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio. Thomas is the husband of Tiffany K. Thomas of Lexington. He is a 2013 graduate of Tates Creek High School.

■ Air Force Airman 1st Class Joel Zarders has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio. Zarders earned distinction as an honor graduate. He earned an bachelor's degree in 2013 from Berea College.


■ For the third straight year, USA Cares, a nonprofit organization that benefits post-9/11 military families in crisis, is holding a Run for Life event to raise awareness about suicide prevention. It will be Saturday at North Hardin High School, 801 South Logsdon Parkway, Elizabethtown. Race times are 7:30 a.m. for the 13.1-mile and 10K runs; and 7:40 a.m. for the 5K. Shirley Johnson Jr., suicide prevention program manager for Fort Knox will speak at the event. Proceeds will benefit military families in crisis. To register, go to
