Neighbors' worries about rectory expansion allayed

Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church allayed concerns of residents of the Hill N Dale neighborhood in south Lexington on Tuesday night that a rectory being built in a single-family house would have inadequate storm water drainage.

David Carter of Sherman-Carter-Barnhart Architects explained that two yard drains would keep water from draining onto neighboring properties on the east side of the rectory, while three rain gardens will do the same on the west side.

Carter also said the parish would explore permeable pavers for a driveway to the garages at the rear of the structure.

The 1,340-square-foot home at 541 Hill N Dale Road is being expanded by nearly 3,000 square feet. It will include three ”mini-suites“ consisting of a bedroom, sitting room and bathroom in each, as well as a guest bedroom. The finished rectory will also have a screened-in porch and a three-stall garage
