Fire causes major damage
to east Lexington home

STAFF, WIRE REPORTS

Lexington ladder crews and firefighters were battling a blaze Sunday night at a home at 629 Teak Wood Drive that began around 9:30 p.m. with a chimney fire that then came through the walls.

The home is owned by real estate agent Kathy Gentry, according to Lexington city property data. Major Brian Wainscott of the Lexington fire department said at least 15 units, including eight fire crews, were on the scene as of 10:30 p.m. and the fire was not yet under control. Wainscott said that, once the fire got into the home’s attic, firefighters had to pull back to avoid steam burns. Wainscott said that no one appeared to be injured.
