West Virginia has all the punch in Legends loss

R. J. Seidel pitched seven shutout innings, and Matt Cline drove in two runs with three hits in three at-bats to lead the West Virginia Power to a 6-0 shutout of the Lexington Legends on Saturday at Applebee’s Park.

West Virginia wasted no time jumping out to a lead. Eric Farris led off the game with a home run to left field off Lexington starting pitcher Jake Leonhardt.

The Power scored single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings, and stretched their lead to five runs in the eighth. Logan Schafer walked with one out and moved to second on Eric Fryer’s groundout. Steffan Wilson then drove the Power’s fifth run home with a single to center field.

The Power added the final insurance run in the ninth inning. Zealous Wheeler led off the inning with a walk, and moved to second on a wild pitch from Jack Tilghman. Wheeler went to third on a groundout and scored on a sacrifice fly from Cline.

Seidel earned the win with seven shutout innings. Seidel struck out five and walked two.

Leonhardt took his league-leading 14th loss after surrendering four runs on seven hits in 42⁄3 innings.
