UK to void volleyball parking tickets

A crowd estimated at more than 3,500 was in Memorial Coliseum on Sunday to see No. 22 Kentucky upset 12th-ranked Florida in volleyball.

Many who parked in a lot next to the Coliseum found parking tickets when they returned to their cars.

The R-1 lot is reserved for students with residential permits and is controlled for permit-only parking 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

According to a story in the Kentucky Kernel, UK's student newspaper, UK volleyball coach Craig Skinner offered to pay for all the citations.

UK Parking & Transportation Services took Skinner off the hook Monday.

UK has agreed to void all tickets issued in that lot during the match. Any questions may be directed to 257-8000.

The volleyball team will play its final regular-season home match at 7 p.m. on Nov. 28 versus Tennessee.

Two Cats earn SEC honors

Junior Sarah Rumely and freshman Becky Pavan were honored Monday by the Southeastern Conference as the Offensive and Freshman Players of the Week.

Rumely had 46 assists, six kills, nine digs and a team-high four blocks against No. 12 Florida. Her two aces also moved her into fifth place all-time in the UK record book with 135. Against South Carolina, she matched a season high with seven kills and had 29 assists, seven digs and six blocks. For the week, she led the team with 1.25 blocks per set.

Pavan had a team-high and career-best 14 kills in 38 tries (a .481 hitting percentage) against Florida. Against South Carolina, the freshman had seven kills on a .333 hitting percentage while leading the team with seven blocks.
