No. 17: Kentucky 79, North Carolina 59

Mark Story recounts UK's 25 most memorable basketball games since the 1983-84 season.

Herald-Leader Sports Columnist Mark Story has looked back at Kentucky basketball games since the 1983-84 season, when the Herald-Leader began its electronic archive, and has selected his top 25 most memorable games. One game will be revealed each day until Nov. 11. Check each day to see where your favorite game was ranked.

No. 17: Kentucky 79, North Carolina 59 (Dec. 8, 2001 in Rupp Arena)

Mark Story's comment: With the hated pale blue in Rupp, Tayshaun Prince began the game in the ultimate shooter’s zone. In the first 3:46 of the contest, the spindly UK forward hit five three-pointers in a row. It set a tone as Prince finished with 31 points and the Cats rolled the Heels.

Excerpt from the original game story: Prince got so hot, his shooting eye got so keen, that after he made four three-pointers in less than two minutes, he stopped at the "U" to apply the coup de grace. His body language saying why not, he launched a three-point shot from the vicinity of center court. "The suburbs of trey-ville," UK radio commentator Mike Pratt said.

And like every other Prince shot in the game's first 15 minutes, it went in.
