Maronde, Ross to square off again in district semis
By Mike Fields
It will be a showdown of ace left-handers when Lexington Catholic's Nick Maronde and Lexington Christian Academy's Robbie Ross face off in the 43rd District semifinals at Tates Creek on Tuesday.
Ross outdueled Maronde in a matchup a few weeks ago. LCA won 2-1 as the two senior pitchers combined for 27 strikeouts.
District matchups had to be determined by coin flips after the regular-season race ended with Dunbar and Lexington Catholic tied for the top seed, and LCA and Tates Creek tied for the third seed.
Dunbar won a coin flip and will be the top seed. Lexington Catholic is the No. 2 seed.
LCA won a coin flip to get the No. 3 seed.
Tates Creek is the fourth seed and Lafayette the fifth.
