West Virginia's Caleb Gindl doubled to score Eric Farris with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Power a 3-2 victory over the visiting Lexington Legends on Sunday.

Lexington's Matt Cusick and Brian Pellegrini hit back-to-back home runs to right field in the top of the third inning to give the Legends a 2-1 lead.

But West Virginia relievers Roque Mercedes and Curtis Pasma struck out 11 and gave up just three hits and no runs over the final 71.3 innings.

In that time, the Power tied the game when Farris scored off a two-out double in the fifth and won it when the West Virginia second baseman scored again in the 10th.

Caleb Gindi's bases-loaded, two-run double in the first inning was all the West Virginia Power needed to send the Lexington Legends to their fourth loss of the week. R.J. Seidel (5-4) pitched 62.3 innings of three-hit ball, and the Power won 3-1 in Charleston.

Seidel gave up the one run on Brian Pellegrini's solo homer in the seventh. It was Pellegrini's 11th long ball of the season and third in three games. He had two of Lexington's three hits Saturday and is batting .454 in that span.

But the rest of the Legends bats cooled off a day after piling up 10 hits in an 8-5 loss to West Virginia Friday. They've lost four of five since Monday.

Corey Frerichs finished off Lexington with three strikeouts and no hits over the final 21.3 for his fifth save of the season.

The Lexington Legends fell to 2-6 to start the second half of the season with an 8-5 loss in West Virginia on Friday night.

The Power took a 2-0 lead in the second inning, and never trailed in the game.

The Legends turned five hits into five runs, including a two-run homer by catcher Jonathan Fixler in the fifth inning.

West Virginia's bullpen held on, though, with Rob Bryson giving up just one hit over three innings, and Curtis Pasma picking up the save with a perfect ninth.

Catlin Everett hit a tie-breaking single, and Matthew Cusick drove in an insurance run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning to help the Lexington Legends beat the West Virginia Power 8-7 in Charleston Thursday night.

The clutch hitting made sure Brian Pellegrini's stellar night at the plate didn't go to waste. He started the scoring for Lexington in the second inning with a two-out, two-run homer and added another two-run shot in the sixth to bring the Legends within 6-4.

It was Pellegrini's second four-RBI night in a week, the first coming June 20 against Greensboro, and the Legends ended a three-game losing streak in the series opener against the Power.

The Legends tied it up at 6 without getting the ball out of the infield in the seventh. Craig Corrado's sacrifice bunt sent Everett home after a throwing error, then Eric Taylor's groundout drove in Cusick, who had moved to third.

Through six innings, Cespedes allowed only a single in the second and a walk in the fifth, and he faced one over the minimum number of batters.

Logan Johnson, the former University of Louisville star, drew a one-out walk in the seventh and Mark Fleisher singled. Johnson advanced to third but Fleisher was thrown out at second by Legends left fielder Russell Dixon.
Legends Manager Gregg Langbehn then went to his bullpen, bringing in Carlos Ladeuth. Ladeuth allowed consecutive hits to Matt Inouye, Christian Marrero and Sergio Miranda that put Kannapolis ahead.
When the Kannapolis Intimidators made their first trip to Lexington this season, former University of Louisville player Logan Johnson struggled to contain his excitement. Johnson went 0-for-10 in the three-game series, but the Owensboro native redeemed himself Tuesday night.

Johnson went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI to lead Kannapolis to a 12-7 defeat of the Legends.

.It's good to play well in front of my family,. said Johnson, a member of U of L's 2007 College World Series team. .I did have to control my emotions a little bit. I was a little excited last time we came here, but I was able to just play today..

Johnson, who was taken in the 20th round of the 2007 draft by the Chicago White Sox, is hitting .278 with 10 home runs and 40 RBI in his first full season as a pro and has committed just seven errors at third base after playing second throughout his college career.

After suffering four losses in five games this weekend, it may be safe to say the Lexington Legends are ready to see Greensboro leave town. The Grasshoppers defeated the Legends 7-3 Monday night at Applebee's Park, taking their 10th win in 11 games against Lexington this season.

Unfortunately for Lexington, Greensboro's departure doesn't necessarily mean easier baseball. The loss gave the Legends (22-52) the worst overall record of all the full-season teams in minor-league baseball.

Still, the Legends won't be upset to see Greensboro hit the road.
Highlights from Wednesday night's 4-2 Lexington loss to Lakewood:

GAMBLE WORTH TAKING

With the game still very much in doubt at 3-2 in the top of the ninth, Lakewood Manager Steve Roadcap elected to steal second base with runners on first and third. Jonathan Fixler tried to peg the runner at second, but his throw sailed into center field and allowed the BlueClaws to tack on an insurance run.
An RBI single and a sacrifice bunt in the 11th inning sent the Legends to a 5-3 win over the Kannapolis Intimidators after Lexington blew a ninth-inning lead with two outs on Tuesday night.

Craig Corrado singled in Russell Dixon and Bryan Brown followed with a sacrifice bunt that brought in an insurance run in the 11th inning at Kannapolis.

The two runs came two innings after Legends reliever Jay Pacella needed just one out for a save but allowed a walk and a run-scoring single to force the extra innings.

Lexington took a 3-2 lead an inning earlier when Max Sapp hit an RBI double and Dixon followed with a run-scoring single.

KANNAPOLIS . Sergio Morales picked a great time for his only hit of the game Monday night.

Morales' two-out single in the bottom of the 10th inning scored Logan Johnson from second base and gave the Kannapolis Intimidators a 3-2 victory over the Lexington Legends.

The throw from Legends center fielder Steve Brown beat Johnson to the plate, but catcher Jonathan Fixler couldn't come up with it. The ball bounced away as Johnson slid in with the winning run.

The victory pushed the Intimidators' winning streak to seven games.

Leandro Cespedes and Carlos Ladeuth couldn't have done much more for the Lexington Legends on Saturday night. They combined to hold Lakewood to just two hits and no runs over the first seven innings.

Unfortunately for the Legends, that wasn't enough to bring home a win.

The Legends also didn't score, and the BlueClaws finally broke through in the eighth en route to taking a 1-0 win in front of 5,059 at Applebee's Park.

.Our pitching staff has been great the last week or so,. third baseman Matt Cusick said. .You can't ask for much more than that. Unfortunately, our offense isn't coming through right now..

Robert Leonhardt made his first win as a starter with the Legends one to remember in Lexington's 3-2 win over the Lakewood BlueClaws on Saturday night at Applebee's Park.

Leonhardt (3-7) gave up four hits and one walk in seven scoreless innings.

In his first nine starts with the Legends, Leonhardt was 0-5 with a 6.10 ERA. He has a 2-2 record in 10 appearances out of the bullpen.

Leonhardt faced just two batters over the minimum as the Legends' defense turned three double plays behind him.
