Lexington Horsemen Coach Mike Harmon has focused on a three-week stretch of games that will determine his team's post-season prospects.

The Horsemen defeated Albany and lost to Louisville in the last two weeks. They visit Peoria Saturday night.

.We're 1-1 in helping control our destiny for the playoffs,. Harmon said. .Everybody is jockeying for position..

Entering the weekend, the Horsemen (7-5) are seventh in the American Conference standings. Eight teams from the three American divisions make the playoffs.

LOUISVILLE — One yard was all the Lexington Horsemen needed to keep the ball, probably run out the clock and slip past the Louisville Fire.

But the Fire's Bernard Jackson got to Horseman quarterback Eddie Eviston and forced a fumble which was recovered by teammate Jerome Jones, giving the Fire 40 seconds to win the game.

That's a lifetime in arenafootball2, and Fire quarterback Matt Bassuener found Tymere Zimmerman in the back of the end zone for a 7-yard touchdown with 16 seconds left.

The Fire emerged with a 54-50 victory in a burgeoning rivalry in af2 between the Kentucky teams Monday night in Freedom Hall.

The one yard Lexington needed was a positive gain that would keep the clock running under af2 rules. If Eviston had retained possession, the Horsemen would have faced fourth down, but likely could have run out the clock.

From the beginning, Chris Royal has played arena football with a chip on his shoulder.

.I want to prove I can be a great player in all of football,. he said.

Royal, a defensive back, was arenafootball2's 2007 Rookie of the Year. He started this season in the Arena Football League, but he has bounced around among several teams.

The Lexington Horsemen signed Royal last week, and he will be in the lineup at the Louisville Fire Monday night.

Throwing five touchdown passes and winning your first game as a starter often don't come off as a bad night.

Somebody didn't tell Ryan Mitch.

Starting just his second game in place of the injured Eddie Eviston, Mitch threw for five scores and 190 yards on 17-for-31 passing, propelling the Lexington Horsemen to a 40-31 victory over the Albany Conquest Saturday night before 2,777 fans in Rupp Arena.

.It's great having a victory, but I almost feel like we lost it,. Mitch said. .I just feel so bad, I feel like I let my team down with their play today..

.Nobody beats him,. his coach says of Bryan Stallings.

.He never talks, but his 360 pounds are always there..

Yet Stallings, an offensive lineman in his fifth year with the Lexington Horsemen, is also .a gentle giant,. according to Coach Mike Harmon.

Stallings will throw his weight around Saturday night when the Horsemen face the Albany Conquest at Rupp Arena.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. . Tennessee Valley never trailed Friday on the way to a 64-48 win over the Horsemen.
