Horsemen start playoff quest in Georgia

The Kentucky Horsemen will take on the South Georgia Wildcats in Albany, Ga., in the first round of the arenafootball2 league playoffs Saturday.

The two teams split their season series. The Wildcats beat Kentucky 72-66 in Albany on May 9, but the Horsemen came back to beat South Georgia 69-41 at Rupp Arena on June 20.

The fourth-seeded Wildcats (11-5) finished a game ahead of the fifth-seeded Horsemen (10-6), closing out the regular season with a 47-45 win at Tennessee Valley while the Horsemen fell to the Florida Firecats 67-39. The Firecats, who clinched the No. 7 seed with the win, were ruled ineligible for the playoffs for failing to pay league fees.

The Horsemen are expected to be without former UK quarterback Jared Lorenzen, who was injured in last weekend's loss to the Firecats. That means Kentucky will likely be relying on Justin Rascati, who has been in a two-quarterback rotation with Lorenzen.

Although Rascati isn't a running threat like Lorenzen, he has completed 64.8 percent of his passes and has only thrown six interceptions in 201 attempts.

His passer rating of 110.8 is slightly better than Lorenzen's at 108.9.
