U.S. Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois will make his first campaign stops in Kentucky since last year with a public rally in Louisville on Monday night and events elsewhere on Tuesday. Obama's campaign hasn't released details of his Tuesday stops.
On Monday night, Obama will hold a rally at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville -- the same venue where his Democratic presidential primary rival, U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York, spoke Friday night at a state Democratic Party fund-raiser.
Obama's event is slated to begin at 7 p.m. but doors will open at 5 p.m., according to the campaign. The rally is open to the public, but the campaign suggests registering at www.barackobama.com.
Meanwhile, Obama's and Clinton's campaigns have ramped up activity in Kentucky in preparation for the May 20 primary election.
In Lexington Sunday, Texas U.S. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson will kick-off Obama's door-to-door canvassing effort with a 2:30 p.m. rally at the campaign's headquarters at 125 E. Reynolds Road, Suite 115.
The Clinton campaign, in addition to canvassing neighborhoods Sunday, has planned a "honk and holler for Hillary" activity at Fayette Mall from noon until 1:30 p.m.
On Monday, Chelsea Clinton is slated to open the campaign's Ashland office at 8:30 a.m., lead a forum at Capronis Lunch Caf in Maysville at 11 a.m. and meet with students and teachers at Dixie Heights High School in Edgewood at 1:30 p.m.
In Lexington, Betsy Ebeling, Hillary Clinton's lifelong friend, will speak at 6:30 p.m. Monday at a forum called "The Hillary I Know." The Carrick House, at 312 N. Limestone in Lexington, will open its doors at 6 p.m. If interested, RSVP to kywomenforhillary@gmail.com.
