PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- A forest ranger say dozens of blazes are burning across eastern Kentucky and many appear to be intentionally set.
WYMT-TV reports that most of the fires started over the weekend and many are still burning.
Pike County Forest Ranger Cody Evans told the station that 1,500 acres have burned in the Big Sandy region, while 200 acres burned in one day in Shelbiana.
Evans says with the "leaves falling off the trees right now, it's just putting more fuel on the ground."
So far, rangers say the fires are burning only in the forests, away from communities.
Anyone with information about deliberately set fires can call an arson hot line at 1-800-27-ARSON.
