MCCAIN CAMP YANKS LIBERAL ROCKER'S SONGS

It may be Our Country, but it's John Mellencamp's song.

When the liberal rocker found out his songs were being played at events for Republican John McCain's presidential campaign, Mellencamp's publicist sent a letter that questioned the campaign's playlist.

"Are you sure you want to use his music to promote Senator McCain's efforts?" according to the letter sent to McCain's campaign Monday. "Logic says that the facts might prove to be an embarrassment, were they to be circulated widely."

McCain campaign spokesman Brian Rogers in Washington, D.C., said Thursday that the songs would no longer be played. He declined to elaborate.

JOLIE SPOTLIGHTS IRAQ REFUGEES

Angelina Jolie swooped into Baghdad on Thursday to highlight the plight of Iraqi refugees, gaining an audience with Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, the American Embassy said.

On her mission as a U.N. good-will ambassador, Jolie met with Iraqi migration officials to stress that there needs to be a coherent plan for the more than 2 million internally displaced Iraqis who are beginning to trickle back to their homes during a recent lull in violence.

"There's lots of good will and lots of discussion, but there seems to be just a lot of talk at the moment," Jolie said in a CNN interview.

ALSO DOING THE GOOD

Chris Rock hosted Madonna and Gucci's $2,500-a-plate charity dinner in New York on Wednesday, to benefit the advocacy group Raising Malawi and UNICEF. The event drew bold-facers Drew Barrymore, Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher and Brooke Shields and raised $3.7 million for U.N. programs that help the globe's poor children.

HONORED AT HARVARD

Before Charlize Theron could pick up her Woman of the Year award, she had to prove she was worthy. That meant dancing to disco music, striking modeling poses and wooing someone wearing an elephant suit and a pink sparkly bra -- all to delight of the cast members of the Hasty Pudding Theatricals at Harvard University, the nation's oldest undergraduate drama troupe. Theron's efforts landed her a gold-colored pudding pot.

Christopher Walken is to receive the Hasty Pudding Man of the Year Award on Feb. 15.

On Wednesday on the campus, Paris Hilton accepted Harvard Lampoon's Woman of the Year Award. The Lampoon's Hayes Davenport said picking Paris was a no-brainer. "The choice was pretty easy when you think of who's had the most profound effect on our lives," he said.

ON THE REHAB CIRCUIT

• The U.S. Embassy in London just said "No, no, no" to Amy Winehouse. The 24-year-old songstress who is currently in rehab won't attend the Grammy Awards because her request for a visa was denied, but The Associated Press reported that she will perform via satellite at Sunday's ceremony in Los Angeles. Winehouse and her acclaimed Back to Black album are nominated for six Grammys.

• Star, Access Hollywood and People report that Kirsten Dunst has checked herself into the super-exclusive Cirque Lodge Treatment Center in Utah, the rehab to the stars favored by the likes of Lindsay Lohan, Richie Sambora and Eva Mendes. Dunst, 25, made some gossipers excited last month when she allegedly displayed erratic, possibly boozy behavior at the Sundance Film Festival.
