LEXINGTON'S HOPKINS IN 'SWINGTOWN'
The TV drama starring Lexington native Josh Hopkins living among sexually liberated couples in 1970s suburbia is finally scheduled to see the light of day.
The hourlong CBS series Swingtown will debut at 10 p.m. Thursday, June 5, the network said in announcing a summer schedule on Monday. Swingtown had been previously scheduled to debut in January but was pulled from the schedule.
Here's the plot of Swingtown: When Susan (Molly Parker) and Bruce Miller (Jack Davenport) move their family to an affluent Chicago suburb in the 1970s, they find more than they bargained for: Their neighbors are swingers. Hopkins stars as the Millers' conservative former neighbor who might be more intrigued with open marriages than he initially lets on.
LEXINGTON MINISTER DUBBED THE 'GREATEST ROMANTIC'
Through a nationwide online video contest, Lexington minister Phil Roberts has been named the "greatest romantic" by Princess Cruises.
Phil, 37, senior minister at Hill-n-Dale Christian Church, had his young daughter, Ashley, recite a poem about his marriage proposal to his wife, Lisa, in 1998.
Phil knew Lisa dreamed of a proposal on the beach, so he filled his spare bedroom -- in Ohio -- with 1,000 pounds of sand and painted a beachscape on the walls. Then, as they sat on two lawn chairs and talked, Phil got down on one knee and ... "I wouldn't be here if she hadn't said yes," daughter Ashley says in the video.
Phil won a Princess cruise for two and for a year will be a member of the cruise line's "department of romance," offering tips, sharing his story, and promoting Princess Cruises, the company said in a press release.
The cruise will be the couple's first romantic getaway without Ashley, 3, and siblings Benjamin, Casey and Danielle, 2. The three youngest were born premature quadruplets in 2005. The fourth, Emily, died shortly after birth.
Phil and Lisa volunteer with families of premature babies through a charity in honor of Emily, Project Seahorse, which provides information and spiritual support to parents of babies in neonatal intensive care.
Phil said the children are a sign of the romance in the couple's life.
"We've gone through a lot getting them into the world," he said. "They sort of represent the love that we have for each other and the love that God has for us."
