closeCopious Notes, LexGo.com picked as award finalists
Herald-Leader Staff Report
LexGo.com and staff writer Rich Copley's blog are finalists to receive major international online media awards.
Copley's blog, Copious Notes, is one of five finalists for best entertainment blog, and LexGo.com is a finalist for best entertainment Web site with fewer than 1 million unique monthly visitors in the 13th annual EPpy Awards. Presented by Editor & Publisher and Mediaweek trade magazines, the awards honor the best media-affiliated Internet sites.
Copious Notes is competing against HandStamp and Kristin2Go from the Houston Chronicle's Web site, Chron.com; Pop Candy, from USAToday.com; and Stuck in the '80s, from TampaBay.com.
Last year, former staff writer Jamie Gumbrecht's blog, It's All About, was a finalist in the same category.
One of the Herald-Leader's first blogs, Copious Notes was launched in late spring 2006, reporting live on the annual Ichthus Christian music festival in Wilmore. It has since grown to report on a variety of art forms.
Copley has been the Herald-Leader's arts and culture writer since 1998. A native of Virginia Beach, Va., he is a graduate of Old Dominion University in Virginia. He previously worked at newspapers in Augusta and Athens, Ga.
LexGo.com is competing against Indy.com, from the Indianapolis Star; Metromix.com; OnMilwaukee.com, Milwaukee's daily magazine; and Vita.mn, from the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
Only 4 months old, LexGo was launched in January to be the home for the Herald-Leader and Kentucky.com's arts and entertainment coverage.
The EPpys will be presented May 15 in Las Vegas.
