Just a few hours later, police arrested Anthony M. Brown, charging him with her slaying.

Brown, 32, has been charged with murder, first-degree robbery and tampering with physical evidence. He is being held in Clark County jail on a $100,000 cash bond.

Hooten, 41, was found dead about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday in the middle of Meadow Street in front of the Generations Center, a Head Start and senior citizens facility.

It appeared that she had been stabbed with a pocketknife, which officers recovered, Winchester police Capt. Harvey Craycraft said.
