Beshear appoints new members of horse racing board
LEXINGTON ATTORNEY TO HEAD REGULATORY GROUP

Gov. Steve Beshear has appointed five new members to the Kentucky Horse Racing Authority. They are:
Alan J. Leavitt of Lexington, a horse breeder and owner of Walnut Hall Ltd. He is also the president of the Kentucky Standardbred Breeders Association.
Edward S. Bonnie of Prospect, a retired equine law attorney with Frost, Brown and Todd.
Foster Harold Northrop of Crestwood, a veterinarian specializing in equine medicine with Cheney & Northrop in Lexington.
Elizabeth S. Lavin of Goshen, secretary and treasurer or Longfield Farm Inc. She has also served as a board member of the Oldham County Equine Council.
Robert M. Beck Jr. of Lexington, an attorney at Stites & Harbison who is the founder, director and president of the American College of Equine Attorneys. Beck will serve as the chair of the Kentucky Horse Racing Authority.
All but Beck are appointed through 2011. Beck's term ends in 2010.
The authority is a state government agency that regulates conduct in horse racing, parimutuel wagering on racing and similar activities.
