Lexington's first rain garden tour takes place Sunday.
The tour, which is free, begins at the Arboretum on Alumni Drive at 1 p.m., then moves to five gardens at private homes. It is expected to end about 5 p.m.
Rain gardens are shallow depressions that hold rain water long enough for it to soak into the ground rather than rushing to a street or storm sewer. The tour is sponsored by the Bluegrass Rain Garden Alliance, which hopes to register 2,010 rain gardens by 2010.
