Kentucky Coach Rich Brooks responded Monday to Louisville Coach Steve Kragthorpe's comments about UK cornerback Trevard Lindley.
Louisville threw several passes in the direction of Lindley, an All-America candidate, and Cardinals receiver Scott Long beat Lindley on a deep ball.
Kragthorpe was asked about Lindley after UK's 31-27 win over Louisville Saturday and said, "We weren't scared of that guy. We were going after his ass."
When asked at his Monday news conference if the fact that UK's secondary gave up some big plays would serve as a wake-up call going into the Wildcats' game with No. 1 Florida, Brooks said, "It's amazing how people can pound their chests for going after a good player. All-Pro cornerbacks get beat for touchdowns. I just hope people keep going after Trevard Lindley. Keep pounding your chests and go after him."
Locke wins SEC award
Kentucky junior Derrick Locke has been named Southeastern Conference special teams player of the week for his performance in UK's win over Louisville.
Locke had a 100-yard kickoff return touchdown in the first half, becoming just the second player in school history and the third in SEC history to accomplish that feat twice in a career.
Locke also had a 100-yard TD return against Western Kentucky last year.
Alabama kickoff time set
The Oct. 3 Alabama-Kentucky game has been selected as the SEC Game of the Week and will kick off at 12:21 p.m.
Brooks on flu issue
Brooks said he's taking every precaution to prevent the outbreak of the flu and H1N1 (swine flu) that's affected college campuses and football programs across the country.
Florida had three players stricken with flu-like symptoms who played in the 23-13 win over Tennessee.
"Every year I've had players affected with the flu before a game, and I don't expect this year to be any different," Brooks said. "We're sanitizing player's lockers, having them wash their hands and isolating anybody with symptoms."
