Blue Grass Airport's Runaway Spending

Three of the felony theft charges filed Tuesday against former Blue Grass Airport officials appear to refer to a $1,600 purchase of theater tickets, a $1,000 Eddie Bauer shopping spree and a $5,000 night at a strip club.

The Blue Grass Airport's board wants Eric J. Frankl as the airport's new executive director.

The story that sparked the investigation

Michael Gobb, executive director of Blue Grass Airport, spent 12 days in St. Petersburg, Russia, last year. The trip cost the airport nearly $13,000. Gobb stayed at the five-star Astoria Hotel, where his room cost more than $500 a night. He gave a presentation on air-cargo security at a two-day professional conference.
