Former Wildcat DeMarcus Cousins and Louisville swimming sensation Kelsi Worrell might be the most recognizable athletes with Kentucky ties at this year’s Summer Olympics, but the commonwealth boasts 15 other athletes pursuing Olympic glory this month and two coaches trying to help. One of those coaches, Kentucky track Coach Edrick Floreal goes to Rio mostly on his own accord as unpaid personal coach to UK sophomore Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, the first-ever freshman winner of the NCAA 100 meter hurdles title, and former UK athletes Leah Nugent and Rondel Sorrillo. Fencer Lee Kiefer of Paul Laurence Dunbar goes into her event as the third-ranked women’s foil fencer in the world.
A missing 16-year-old was found dead in Whitley County on Friday night. Kayly Lockaby’s body was found near the home of a man with whom she was thought to have been staying. The coroner said there was no obvious injury to account for her death.
