When you think about freedom, what you wear probably isn’t one of the first things that comes to mind. But expressing yourself through fashion is one of the most creative ways we can tell the world a little bit about who we are — without saying a word.
While the majority of women have a pretty basic style in their everyday lives, there are just as many who have fun with it. Adding personal touches to an outfit can change it all together.
Jeremy Scott is one of the fashion world’s most well-known designers for unique collections. The American is now creative director for the enormously popular Italian Moschino brand.
Scott celebrates luxury items through cheeky iconography and name brand spoofs, often paying homage to pop culture.
The goal with Moschino pieces is to always make a statement. So it should come as no surprise that celebs like Miley Cyrus, Rihanna and Katy Perry are some of the Italian label’s biggest supporters.
The designer also likes to take costumers back in time with pieces that pay homage to beloved characters from childhood. Most recently, Scott created entire collections honoring The Powerpuff Girls, Barbie, Super Mario Brothers — and even McDonalds.
Scott also takes inspiration from everyday items like street signs, credit cards — even construction cones — and turns them into head-turning looks. You may think these items are better suited for the runway, but fashion is essentially all about how you carry yourself.
With the right confidence there is no reason you too can’t pull off a fun and frilly caution-tape dress or even a skirt with shopping bags already attached to the hips.
Moschino also offers a variety of items for the true-blue fashionista. A “no bikini zone” one-piece suit (we don’t see nearly enough of those these days), a blouse as an ode to the Chanel No. 5 perfume bottle, and even a chic pair of shoe print pants.
Naturally, Moschino’s accessories are just as bold and free as its apparel. What girl wouldn’t want a biker jacket leather bag or a pair of clothes-hanger earrings?
Even if you don’t want to go all out avant garde, these small little doses of pizzazz can take your ensemble to the next level.
So the next time you are feeling a little adventurous and want to spice up your look, remember that freedom through fashion is a beautiful thing — and should be celebrated often!
