Taking it to the streets
Runners and walkers will take to the streets of downtown Lexington on Saturday for A Midsummer Night's Run. The Fastest Kid in Town race for ages 3 and older starts at 4:30 p.m., the One-Mile Fun Run/Walk is 6:30 p.m., and the 5K is at 8 p.m. Registration is $15 to $20 at John's Run/Walk Shop at 317 South Ashland Avenue through Friday. Race-day registration begins at 2 p.m. at the Robert E. Stephens Courthouse Plaza, 150 North Limestone. Amidsummer5k.com.
Shop for miles and miles and miles and miles
Thousands of vendors will sell their wares at the annual 127 Yard Sale through Sunday. Billed as the world's longest yard sale, the event takes place along 690 miles of U.S. 127, from just north of Addison, Mich. to Gadsden, Ala.

All 'Grease,' no lightning
Fountain Films on Friday features free screenings at Triangle Park at 400 West Main Street. Movies start at approximately 8:45 p.m. on Friday. This week's feature is the hit musical Grease starring John Travolta and Olivia-Newton John. Downtownlex.com.
music festival is a free fun-for-all
The Lexington Youth Arts Council, a youth program of LexArts, will present its annual Lexaroo Music Festival 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Cheapside Park, 251 West Main Street.
The free showcase features emerging bands from Fayette County high schools. Bands scheduled to perform include: The Bing Boings, The Shameless Nameless, Emanon, Paranormal Pajama Party, Compliment Sandwich and Grace Mattingly.
The evening will also include slam poets, face painting and henna body art. The Big Maracas will perform at 8 p.m.. Local food trucks will be on-site.
