Authors, readers gather for Kentucky Book Fair
More than 200 authors and illustrators will be at the Kentucky Book Fair, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Frankfort Convention Center. Among them will be photographer John Snell signing Red River Gorge, My Second Home. The new 224-page coffee table-style book features Snell's photographs of rock formations, water scenes, wild flowers, fall foliage and more. Kybookfair.blogspot.com.
Organist to play new, old works
Organist David Briggs, artist-in-residence at St. James Cathedral in Toronto and organist emeritus at Britain's Gloucester Cathedral, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Church of the Good Shepherd, 533 East Main Street. The program will include works by Bach, Brahms, Debussey, Durufle, Franck and Gigout. Briggs also will premiere a choral piece, commissioned by George Zack and Church of the Good Shepherd in thanksgiving for the life of his late wife, Kerry Zack. Of the Peoples, for the people
The Peoples Portal Pop-Art Gallery is a weekend exhibit at the mid-century modern Peoples Bank building at 343 South Broadway.
Curated by Stuart Horodner, director of the University of Kentucky Art Museum, the show features works by artists from Lexington, Atlanta, Chicago, and London, including Louis Zoellar Bickett, Georgia Henkel and Brian Frye.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free, and events are scheduled throughout the weekend.
The exhibit closes with a party from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday featuring food by Dan Wu, drinks by Wine+Market, music by LeeRoy and a reading by Frank X Walker. Contemporary dance company Movement Continuum celebrates its fifth anniversary with Five. The production will feature dances of past seasons, a documentary film and an exhibit of company artifacts.
