Lexington native Ben Sollee released a new video Friday inspired by and featuring the work of Lexington artist Louis Zoellar Bickett. The video for “Pieces of You” incorporates images from Bickett’s personal archive, which was exhibited in Lexington in the Fall of 2016 and then in New York at the Andrew Edlin Gallery, where the video was shot by Mallory Cunningham.
The gallery is directed by Phillip March Jones, founder of Lexington’s Institute 193 gallery.
The video is a prelude to Sollee’s new project, Ben Sollee & Kentucky Native, which finds the cellist in a string band format with banjo player Bennett Sullivan, violinist and fiddler Julian Pinelli, and longtime collaborator Jordan Ellis on “the quietest percussion you could ever imagine,” Sollee says on his website. Also on the project are bassists Jonathan Estes and Josh Hari and backing vocalist Jona Smith.
Never miss a local story.
The group-titled album drops Aug. 11, though you can get advance music and other stuff through pre-ordering.
