A parents' guide to select new movies:
'Race to Witch Mountain'
Rating: PG for sequences of action and violence, frightening and dangerous situations, and some thematic elements.
What it's about: A Vegas cabbie picks up two odd kids who are being pursued by a super-secret government agency.
The Kid Attractor Factor: Lots of action, cute teens, space ships and evil aliens.
Good lessons/bad lessons: Sometimes the conspiracy buffs are right.
Violence: More than you'd think from a PG. Punches and gunplay.
Language: Disney clean.
Drugs: None. Gambling is the addiction of choice in Vegas.
Parents' advisory: Plainly for kids, this still has action to please many a teen. OK for 7 and older.
'The Last House on the Left'
Rating: R for sadistic brutal violence, including a rape and disturbing images, language, nudity and some drug use.
What it's about: A teen girl runs afoul of murderous thugs, who accidentally stumble into her family's home and face their vengeance.
The Kid Attractor Factor: Kids go for horror, even horror based in reality.
Good lessons/bad lessons: That cute boy selling you pot could get you killed.
Violence: Almost non-stop and as graphic as the screen has ever seen.
Sex: A brutal rape scene.
Drugs and alcohol: Pot and alcohol.
Parents' advisory: Not for anyone younger than 16 under any circumstances.
